COURSE TITLE:       Manufacturing Principles in Metallurgy

 

COURSE TEXT:       None

 

COURSE OBJECTIVE:       Learn how to make stuff

 

TOPICS TO BE COVERED:

 

1.      Mining and Ore Refining

2.      Casting

3.      Forming

4.      Joining

5.      Machining

6.      Statistical Process Control

7.      Other

 

Homework will be assigned about once a week.

 

Each student will be required to complete a project in which 10 of a given item are manufactured.  The item to be manufactured will be chosen by the student with the approval of the class.  The manufacturing project will constitute 70% of the grade.  The following production deadlines must be met.

 

January 31                 Hand drawn sketch

February 23               Design prints due

March 8                      Prototype due

March 22                    Production routing due

April 24                       10 items due

 

Completion of the above tasks on the selected days will guarantee a passing grade.  The higher grades will be given to those people who show the best performance on homework and the people who manufacture the highest quality items.

 

Everyone is required to attend Westec2000 which is March 20-23.
