HMC Literature 110: Shakespeare

Our Last Hurrah in Thomas-Garrett!

Spring 2011

Yes, Thomas-Garrett REALLY is coming down this summer. So yes, this REALLY will be the last Shakespeare performance in that wartish, olive-infused, Globe-like courtyard that we've been using as a stage for twenty-two years.

To celebrate the end of this long run, this year's energetic acting troupe has decided to produce A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare's metatheatrical masterpiece from the mid-1590s. This will be our nineteenth production, and it's a play that we've never put on before.

From the 2010 production of Twelfth Night.

A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed on Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30, beginning at 1:30 on both days. It will take place in the Thomas-Garrett Courtyard on the HMC campus: if it's sunny, bring a hat; if cold, a sweater. Admission is free, but seating is limited.

Since 1989, the students of Literature 110 have performed the following plays by Shakespeare (and one by Shakespeare's contemporary, John Webster):

  • 2010--Twelfth Night.
  • 2009--John Webster, The Duchess of Malfi.
  • 2008--Measure for Measure.
  • 2006--King Lear.
  • 2005--Twelfth Night.
  • 2003--Richard III.
  • 2002--The Winter's Tale.
  • 2001--As You Like It.
  • 2000--The Tempest.
  • 1999--Henry IV, Part 1.
  • 1998--Much Ado About Nothing.
  • 1997--Macbeth.
  • 1996--King Lear.
  • 1995--Romeo and Juliet.
  • 1994--The Winter's Tale.
  • 1992--Henry IV, Part 1.
  • 1991--The Tempest.
  • 1989--Macbeth.
We hope you'll join us for our final TG performance!
