Important Notice: Do not try to download the material below until we are ready to use it in class. Why not? Because I sometimes upgrade the files as the class proceeds prior to the use of the material and I typically use the same filenames as before and I do not notify anyone of the upgrade. Therefore, download the material only when assigned.
You will probably want to print these files out - they are too hard to read in Acrobat, but will print with good resolution. Be forewarned, however, that each file is about 14 pages long(!), so don't tax our printing facilities at HMC. It will be helpful if you print them prior to when they are assigned (I know, that a little inconsistent with what I wrote above, but here I mean just prior by a day or so), share them with others, or photocopy them. That will put less strain on our printing facilites.
Please let me know of any problems by email. And again, please do not get ahead of the course on this.
Material for Week 1
Material for Week 6 - Economic Simulation Models and Homework Assignments
In this class you will be asked to use a simulation model set called HMC MacroSim to do some homework for class discussions. You will find these assignments referred to in the course outline. Using the files below, you can view and print the homework assignments and you can download the models to be used locally on your computer.
This downloadable 454K file below is a self-extracting zip file called models.exe that will locally, when executed, unzip into a program called macrosim.exe and three companion files required to make macrosim run.
To set these files up, unzip the models.exe file and follow the instructions. If you do not know how to unzip a self-extracting zip file, read this link on self-extracting zip files.
Here is the zipped model file:

Material for Week 7 Employment and Unemployment
Go to the web site for the Bureau of Labor Statistics and find the Occupational Outlook Handbook. In that document find the profession that you are considering. Be as specific as possible (for example, rather than choosing engineer chose aerospace engineer. Then do at least two things: (1) find the earnings for your profession, and (2) find the employment prospects for your profession. The after this go to the Management section and find a career that is the same as the one you just researched except assume that you have moved into management (for example, engineering and natural sciences managers. Find the same information. Then randomly choose a third profession and do the same for that profession.
Be prepared to write a brief essay on your next exam about what you have discovered.
