This material is generally presented below in the order that I expect to use it, but I may change the order from time to time.
Assignment 1: Build a stock portfolio
Part 1: Exploring finance.yahoo's
portfolio builder, due on September 6
Part 2: Building a stock investment portfolio, to
be completed on September 16-18, due on September 20.
In this assignment you are to use finance/google’s stock screener to make some stock selections using specified criteria. This must be completed before Tuesday, September 27.
Assignment 3: Obtain a Prospectus for a Mutual Fund
In this simple assignment you will largely explore fees for a selection of mutual funds. This should be completed and brought to class on Tuesday, September 27. It will not be collected but it will be discussed.
Assignment 4: Learning How to Research ETFs by Example
In this detailed and complex assignment you will, through research, compare two ETFs. Do not attempt to do this homework until you have read all assigned material about ETFs, including Chapter 5. This must be completed prior to the exam on September 29, 2011, and will likely be reflected on the exam in at least some small way.

Assignment 6: Using the Bond Value Calculator to Calculate Bond Values
First download the Excel Workbook entitled Bond Pricing Master version 1.1. (This is a zipped Excel xlsx file). Then after reading all assigned material for this module, download and complete this assignment.
Assignment 7: Calculating Settlement and Cash Margin
Values for Select Futures Contracts
This assignment must be completed in three steps: (1)
On or before the assignment date, (2) the day after the assignment date or
within three days, and (3) during the take-home final as a graded part of the
take-home final.
