Surat Shabd Yoga

Surat Shabd Yoga is a direct path to self-realization, God-realization, and spiritual freedom. It teaches the individual how to attain these states by uniting one's soul (or "Surat") with the Shabd, the creative essence of God.

This God Power - known in various cultures as the Word, Holy Spirit, Ek, Naam, Bani, or Audible Life Stream - emanates from, and returns to, the very heart of All Creation in a continuous wave of pure, golden love, which can be heard as sound and seen as light.

Through the union - or "yoga" - of the soul with this Wave of Life, one is gradually lifted above body consciousness into greater degrees of spiritual awakening, culminating in spiritual freedom in this lifetime.

Surat Shabd Yoga is said to be the most ancient spiritual teaching on the planet. Every major Saint, Savior, and Sat Guru - including Pythagoras, Jesus, Rumi, Guru Nanak, Kabir, Shiv Dayal Singh, Sawan Singh, Charan Singh, Kirpal Singh, and Paul Twitchell - has taught that the most direct path to spiritual freedom lies through Shabd, the Word of God.

According to the Shabd Yoga tradition, the world is never without at least one living Sat Guru, or Shabd spiritual teacher, who is capable of linking the individual - through initiation - to the Shabd (or Word). The living teacher functions as both an outer, physical instructor, as well as an inner friend who can meet students in Soul and guide them through the worlds of duality back home to the regions of pure Spirit and Divine Love - the Abode of God.

Spirituality is another name for Surat Shabd Yoga. In other words, it means union of the Surat (consciousness or soul) with the Shabd (Sound-principle, Sound-current or God-in-action). About Michael Turner

Michael Turner was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1958, and raised in California. An inner explorer from an early age, he unfolded under the influence of Ram Dass, Paul Twitchell, Darwin Gross, Harold Klemp, and Kirpal Singh, among others.

Michael began teaching Surat Shabd Yoga on October 22, 1993. His goal is to establish this timeless way of unfoldment as a recognized and well-respected school of spiritual exploration and growth, and to make its teachings available to all who are interested - in a context to which each individual can relate.

What is presented is not a fixed dogmatic system to which the seeker must conform but, rather, a variety of methods for inner exploration and personal spiritual evolution. Using the laboratory of the self, one can experiment with these exercises and personally experience self-realization, God-realization, and spiritual freedom in this lifetime.

As a Surat Shabd Yoga teacher, Michael Turner serves as the behest of Divine Spirit, independent of all religious organizations. He honors all other Sat Gurus and paths, and stands in competition with no one. His only purpose in serving as a living teacher, and inner guide, is to be a friend and wayshower to those who would like to achieve spiritual freedom in this lifetime.

Thank you...with love.
