The Just Intonation Ear Trainer tests your ability to recognize intervals. While there are many ear training programs with this capability, this one specifically drills intervals that are "just," or based on relatively small-number ratios of frequencies. Instead of conventional names, like major sixth or minor seventh, these intervals are referred to here by numerical ratios. There are many more intervals here than are available in the conventional octave as represented on the piano, 42, in fact, to the piano's 12. This set is based on Harry Partch's 43-tone just intonation, but the interval 1/1 (unison) has been left out.
Requirements:
The Just Intonation Ear Trainer only runs on the Macintosh. It is a shareware stack that requires HyperCard or HyperCard Player version 2.0 and higher. Version 1 will not run on PowerMacintoshes or Performas with PPC processors. Version 2.3 requires QuickTime version 2.1 or higher. In order to select different musical instrument sounds, QuickTime Musical Instruments is required.HyperCard Player, QuickTime, and QuickTime Musical Instruments are available from Apple Computer. There may be compatibility problems with some versions of Connectix RAMDoubler®. I suggest you turn off RAMDoubler before running the program.
