The Technology
and Implementation

The Claremont Colleges, led by Harvey Mudd College, are building an infrastructure the will allow seamless network connectivity while roaming the campuses with laptop computers and other wireless ready devices.
The equipment used is based on the IEEE 802.11b/g standard, implemented by a hoard of network vendors. It is a Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum signal in the 2.4GHz frequency band.

Compatible cards

While there are probably dozens of compatible cards available, we have tested cards from the following vendors and found them to work fine.
  • Lucent/Orinoco
  • LinkSys
  • Cisco
  • Apple
  • D-Link

Card Registration and Coverage Areas

The wireless network is a Claremont wide network, that is restricted to members of the Claremont Colleges community. Until your network card is registered, you will not have full access to the Internet.

The process to register your card varies somewhat, depending on your local campus. See the appropriate campus link below.

Each participating campus provides and is responsible for their own coverage, which varies considerably from campus to campus. Follow the following links for more information:

Network Configuration

  • Setup the network IP configuration to use DHCP, or
    "Get Address from Server"
  • Use the wireless client program to set mode to 'Infrastructure'
  • Use the wireless client program to set SSID to "ANY" or "CINE"
