persons are certified at this time. Kimberly will contact these 10
persons concerning their attendance at this recertification session.
2) RADIATION SAFETY
Karl Haushalter, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biology,
will now serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for HMC. Karl
will also chair the Radiation Safety Committee. Other Committee
members will include Professor David Asai, Chair of the Biology
Department, Mary Williams, Associate Professor of Biology, Richard
Haskell, Professor of Physics, and Annie Atiyeh, Physics Lab Manager.
Annie and Richard will also serve as RSO alternates.
Karl will forward a copy of all new permit amendments to Theresa
(F&M), Tony (EH&S Manager), and Kim May (Chair of the IMT).
Training sessions in Radiation Safety will be scheduled by the RSO
through the Radiation Safety Committee.
3) GREEN SHEET TIPS
Annie requested safety tips for publication in the next Green
Sheet. Safety tips can be submitted by members of the Employee
Safety Committee or by other sources.
4) SAFETY TRAINING ATTENDANCE INCENTIVES
It was suggested that Kimberly draft a letter to Starbucks
concerning coupons to be used as incentives to attend safety
training sessions. Annie suggested that it might be better to
give "gift cards" to be used at any cafeteria or eatery of the
Claremont Colleges.
The Committee decided to award these "gift cards" proportionately
to attendance at the safety training sessions, such that one award
will be giver per 7 attendees. Each gift card will be $10.00
Annie will work out the details of this incentive program.
5) SKATEBOARD SAFETY
Lillian has noticed that skateboards are often placed dangerously
close to exits of lecture halls, labs, and buildings. After some
discussion, the Committee decided that a letter should be forwarded
to Sheldon so that he might share the Committee's concerns with the
senior staff.
Annie will submit a "skateboard safety" tip for publication in the
Green Sheet.
6) LOSS CONTROL
Tony's presentation dealing with the "Departmental Operational Loss
Control Guide" was tabled.
7) OPEN DISCUSSION
A. The Committee decided that a baby-shower gift be purchased for
Kimberly. Annie will make the purchase.
B. A discussion on driver training and "virtual" driver training
was tabled. Tony said that Human Resources will provide lists
and keep records of all approved drivers of College vehicles
8) Next meeting: Friday, November 14, 2003 at 11:00am in the Stauffer
