Agenda Items:

1) NEW VICE-CHAIR
Debra Heavenston is no longer representing Human Resources as a
member of the Employee Safety Committee. Kimberly Rogers will
assume those duties previously performed by Debra, and will also
    serve as Vice-Chair.

2) NEXT SAFETY SESSIONS
Since March 30, has been designated as an HMC holiday, the Dining
Services Basic Safety Session and fire extinguisher training
scheduled for this date has been rescheduled for Friday, April 6,
from 2-4 pm. Training will be in English and Spanish.

Staff and faculty fire extinguisher training will be Friday,
    April 20, at 1:30 pm.

3) FIRST AID AND CPR TRAINING
Two sections have been scheduled, one for July 7, and the second
for July 21. Training will be conducted by the Red Cross.

The initial CPR training requires a full-day session. This
certification must be renewed annually at a half-day session.

The first aid certification must be renewed every 3 years. Every
4th year, this training is made available to all HMC employees. A
minimum of 12 participants per section is required.

Because Dining Services is closed during the month of July, Ramona
Campoy will coordinate the CPR and first aid training at the
beginning of the fall semester. A minimum of 10 participants is
required for the full-day sessions. Training will be given in
    English and Spanish.

4) CHEMICAL HYGIENE PROGRAM
Hal Van Ryswyk, CHO, has met with other department heads concerning
the Chemical Hygiene Program. The Chemistry Department already has
an established Chemical Hygiene Plan. Other HMC Departments must
now decide whether they wish to amend the Chemistry plan as
needed (resulting in one plan for the College), or formulate
and establish an individual departmental plan.

    Discussions are in progress.

5) SCHEDULING OF SAFETY TRAINING FOR FACULTY
Sheldon said that regularly scheduled faculty meetings must be
considered when establishing traing sessions for faculty members.
Hal suggested scheduling safety training in August, before the
    beginning of the first semester.

Annie will contact Lois about the first semester faculty meeting
calendar. The HMC Employee Safety Committee will then meet in
early August to decide the dates for all first semester training
sessions. Possible dates include a Basic Safety Session and fire
extinguisher training in September, and corporate criminal
    liability training in October.

6) OPEN DISCUSSION

    A. Theresa said that all life safety systems remain online during
       power outages.

    B. It was decided that Kimberly Rogers should send a reminder e-mail
to each participant who is scheduled to attend a safety training
session. This reminder is to be sent several days prior to the
session, in an effort to increase faculty and staff participation.

    C. Lillian mentioned that HMC employees should be reminded to place
all door stops close to the wall when not in use. Doorstops
left in the hallway pose a definite safety hazard.

7) Next meeting will be: a luncheon meeting on Wednesday, May 9,
at noon at the Faculty House
