1) NEW COMMITTEE MEMBER
The HMC Safety Committee welcomed its newest member, Chris
Sundberg, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.
2) NEXT SAFETY TRAINING SESSIONS
a. Wednesday, February 17, 2000
Hazard Communication for HMC staff
b. Wednesday, February 24, 2000
Hazard Communication for HMC faculty
c. Wednesday, March 9, 2000
Workplace Violence III - a combination of courses open
only to those who have completed Workplace Violence I
and Workplace Violence II
d. Friday, April 28, 2000
Fire extinguisher training - contact Annie for
reservations
3) EMC REPORT
Kim May, Chair of the Emergency Management Committee,
reported on the progress of the Emergency Management Team.
The Claremont fire captain has requested information
concerning the chemicals stored in each lab, in addition to
an emergency contact person. The EMT will formulate a
notice, which can be posted outside each lab, including this
necessary information.
The Chemical Hygiene Committee will oversee the implementation
of this program, making certain that the Claremont Fire
Department, HMC Facilities & Maintenance, the EMT, and Campus
Security are notified when postings are updated.
4) ISSUES CONCERNING STUDENTS
Chris reported that proper fire procedures are in place at all
HMC dormitories.
Students have expressed concerns about implementing stricter
health club procedures.
5) OPEN DISCUSSION
A. Improper administering of health care was discussed.
Relative to the Good Samaritan Act, Tony emphasized the
extreme importance of each individual "acting only within
the scope of his/her training".
B. There is a need for radiation safety training. Tony will
begin coordinating a training session, possibly 2 hours,
for all of the Claremont Colleges.
6) Next meeting will be: Friday, March 31, 2000, at 9:00 in
the Stauffer Lounge.
A computer record and a hard copy of this report will be kept in
Lillian McCollum's office (2310 Jacobs).
