Minutes from Meeting on January 19, 2001

In Attendance:

Agenda Items:

1)  NEW COMMITTEE MEMBER
    Kimberly Rogers, Human Resources Associate, was introduced 
    as the newest member of the HMC Employee Safety Committee.  
    
    Annie will prepare a safety matrix for her.     


2)  NEXT SAFETY SESSIONS
    a.  Training for the Dining Services staff has been scheduled 
        for Friday, March 2, from 2-4 pm.  Scheduling was done by 
        Annie and Aaron Neilson, Director of HMC Dining Services.

    b.  Basic safety training for staff will be held on Thursday, 
        February 8.  Faculty training will be held on Thursday, 
        February 15. Both sessions will be at 11:00 am in the 
        Stauffer Lounge.

    c.  Combined training for "back" safety and "ladder" safety, for 
        Dining Services staff, will be held in April.

    d.  A session on corporate criminal liability, for faculty and
        staff, is scheduled for Thursday, March 22, at 11:00 am in
        the Stauffer Lounge.
        
  
3)  FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING
    Training for Dining Services staff sill be on Friday, March 30,
    from 2-4 pm.

    Training for other HMC staff will be on Friday, April 20, from 
    1:30 to 3:00 pm.


4)  FIRST AID AND CPR
    Training is scheduled for Saturday, July 14.  A maximum of 15 
    participants can be accommodated.  Annie wil schedule additional
    sessions if necessary.

    Interested persons must commit to the required 3-year program
    certification.


5)  CHEMICAL HYGIENE PROGRAM
    Annie and Tony will meet with Hal Van Ryswyk to discuss the HMC 
    Chemical Hygiene Program.  

    Tony would like to include the help of a chemical hygienist, who 
    will assist the CHO and the Chemical Hygiene Committee in policing
    and monitoring the various laboratory environments.  


6)  OPEN DISCUSSION

    A. Questions arose as to who is responsible for the distribution
       of flashlights and batteries to the HMC community.  Kimberly
       Rogers will research this issue and e-mail her findings to 
       Annie.  

    B. Theresa has forwarded a procedure to all HMC departments
       concerning the delivery of very large, heavy, bulky packages.
       Tony suggested that such deliveries be made directly to CUC 
       Physical Plant loading dock; arrangements can then be made for
       delivery to the designated area.

    C. Tony mentioned that confirmation should be made as to whether
       life-safety systems (fire safety systems, emergency lighting, fume
       hoods) are operational during power outages.

       This issue was tabeled until the next meeting.

      
7) Next meeting will be:  Friday, March 23, 2001 at 11:00 am in the
   Stauffer Lounge.
