Kathleen O'Brien Wicker has an interdisciplinary specialization in religious studies. Her research and teaching have emphasized two areas: the examination of the biblical tradition and the philosophic and religious traditions of antiquity from a feminist perspective, and the study of African religions--traditional, Christian and Islamic--and also their literary representations in African literature. She is currently working with colleagues in Ghana, West Africa to document Mami Water rituals at two shrines on videotape and to collect oral history narratives from the priests and devotees of these shrines for a book on Mami Water ritual and praxis in Ghana. She has published Porphyry the Philosopher to Marcella , and a number of articles on her two areas of research.
