Among Joseph Parker's research interests are medieval Japanese Buddhism and aesthetics, religious syncretism, andSino-Japanese relations. His forthcoming book, Zen Buddhist Landscape Arts of Early Muromachi Japan (1336-1573), will be published by SUNY Press. He has authored numerous articles, which have been published in the Journal of Japanese Studies, Monumenta Nipponica, and Religions of Japan in Practice, as well as contributions to the Dictionary of Art. In addition to accenting his research interests, his teaching has addressed such issues as Orientalism and the study of East Asian religions, canon construction, and transnational feminist and gender studies.
