Science Camp
Ms. Vicki Lane and Mr. John Rubio
The Science Camp focused largely on pre-engineering. Pre-engineering is particularly important to introduce since most students have little or no idea about what engineers do. During the Camp, students made roller coasters out of K-Nex parts, built model airplanes, designed and built boats, made CO2 and mousetrap cars, and built and designed kites and rockets. Before, during, and after construction, students studied the theoretical background supporting each project. All projects were tested for appropriately employing the theoretical principles discussed in class. Through the hands-on approach of learning, students were able to revise their projects to make them better by applying theory and experienced cooperative learning since student worked in teams.
