Description

The Hixon-Riggs Visiting Professorship is offered to a senior scholar usually for a term of one year. The person may represent any one of a number of academic fields but must demonstrate a substantial interest in topics of "Science, Technology, and Society."

Hixon-Riggs Visiting Professor in Science, Technology, and Society
for 2006-07 and for 2007-08 at Harvey Mudd College

The Hixon Forum of Harvey Mudd College is pleased to announce a search for Hixon-Riggs Visiting Professors for 2006-2007 and for 2007-2008. We seek scholars currently in tenure track positions at any rank and in any discipline associated with Science, Technology and Society, including, but not limited to, Science and/or Technology Policy. Scholars who might be interested in visiting at some later time in the future may submit inquiries as well.

The Hixon-Riggs Visiting Professor will be expected to teach in his/her special area of expertise, to play a mentorship role in the College's Hixon Forum for Responsive Technology, give public lectures or presentations, and organize a conference or program on a topic of current interest. The appointment is for either a semester or a full academic year, and its terms are negotiable. The Professorship resides in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. Hixon-Riggs Reading Group


Each spring, the Hixon-Riggs Visiting Professor leads a reading group in some area of interest. Participants are drawn from faculty and staff at all of the Claremont Colleges. Buffet dinner and books are provided by the Hixon-Riggs endowment. See the Reading Schedule for spring 2003.
